The Lionesses Bring Football Home

Football finally came home last night as the Lionesses beat Germany in the Euros 2022 final.

Crowds erupted after forward, Chloe Kelly, secured an extra time winner that sent the nation into delirium.

Last night’s game will not only go down in history as England’s first major tournament win since 1966 but as the all time highest attendance spectacle at both Men’s and Women’s European championships.

The BBC have also confirmed today that this was the most watched Womens football game of all time and the most watched programme in 2022 so far.

101 years on from the blanket ban on women’s football, not only did this achievement break records a plenty, but shattered long held stereotypes and misconceptions of the women’s game.

What these incredible women have achieved is nothing short of magic, and their legacy is set to change the landscape for not only women in football, but women in sport, at all levels, across the country.

As Gabby Logan so perfectly put in last night’s coverage, “You think it’s all over? It’s only just begun.”

So thank you, Lionesses, for paving the way, and showing that women CAN.
